194 Radio City launched across Liverpool and the surrounding area 50 years ago on 21st October 1974 and the first song played was Stevie Wonder’s You Are The Sunshine Of My Life.
Presenters over the years have included Norman Thomas, Rob Jones, Graham Dene, Phil Kennedy, Pete Price, Billy Butler, Simon Ross, Darren Proctor, Joel Ross and many, many more.
In August 2000, Radio City relocated to the iconic St Johns Beacon (Radio City Tower) in Houghton Street in Liverpool.
Like many radio stations, City changed it’s name a few times on FM from 194 Radio City to 96.7 City FM to Radio City 96.7, whilst on AM the name changed a lot including City Talk 1458 AM, Radio City Gold, City Gold and Magic 1458.
Radio City 96.7 rebranded to Hits Radio in April 2024 and still broadcasts a local weekday breakfast show from the iconic St Johns Beacon (Radio City Tower).
Radio City At 50 features some great mixes and demos of jingles produced by Gerry Marsden, Emison, JAM Creative Productions, Groove Addicts, Music 4, Wise Buddah and more.
