Capital Radio ‘London’ launched 50 years ago on 16th October 1973 with presenters including Kenny Everett, Dave Cash, Tony Myatt, Roger Scott, Tommy Vance, Nicky Horne. Troubled Water by Simon & Garfunkel was the first ever record to be played.
It was in late 1987 when Richard Park relaunched Capital Radio with a CHR/Top 40 sound, new tag-line of ‘Music Power’, new presenter line-up including Pat Sharp, Neil Fox and Jakki Brambles. The station went from strength to strength and in 1989 it changed it name to 95.8 Capital FM. The Chris Tarrant Breakfast Show was hugely popular.
Roll on a number of years and Capital reverted back in January 2006 to it’s original name of Capital Radio albeit short-lived before rebranding to Capital 95.8 in early 2007 and then back to 95.8 Capital FM in 2009 under the new ownership of Global Radio.
These days, Capital is a national brand with regional drive time shows. Capital also now has a number of spin-off stations including Capital Dance and Capital Xtra.
Capital Radio/FM ‘London’ features some great mixes and demos of jingles produced by Swingle Singers, Chris Rainbow, MMI/TM Productions, Groove Addicts, IQ Beats, Reelworld and many more.

Capital Radio split their FM (95.8) and AM (1548) frequencies on ‘Sundays only’ in May 1986 and launched two separate/distinctive services, the FM service was called CFM and lasted a few years.
